Privacy Notice – Donor, Supporter and Alumni

The Boys’ Brigade values the relationships with our donors, supporters and former members (alumni). This statement explains how the organisation collects, manages and will use your personal data. The statement also explains how you can change the way that we use your personal data at any time.

The Boys’ Brigade is the data controller for the personal data you disclose via any of our online/web-based forms.

The Boys’ Brigade is registered as a data controller with the Information Commissioner Office (ICO) and is responsible under the Data Protection Act 2018 for the personal data you submit to us. We process your personal data under the terms of our registration notice with the ICO.

Our ICO registration number is Z6845608

Your personal data will be stored securely in Online Brigade Manager (OBM) – the central administrative system used by The Boys’ Brigade to, collect, process & store personal data. OBM is supported and managed by Online Youth Manager (third party provider).

How we use your personal data

In the course of being a donor, supporter or member of our Alumni scheme, The Boys will need to collect, retain and process information consisting of personal data.

The Boys’ Brigade may contact donors, supporters or alumni in order to send communications, invitations, and information about fundraising activities of potential interest via: mail, email or text (currently we do not use text but may do so in the future).

Tools may be used to help us improve the effectiveness of The Boys’ Brigade’s communications with you, including tracking whether the emails sent are opened and which links are clicked within a message.

Where data is processed by a third party we will carry out due diligence checks, put in place contracts and/or data sharing protocols to govern the use of data by the third party to ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and guidance.

Your personal data will not be disclosed to external organisations other than those acting as agents for The Boys’ Brigade on alumni projects and fundraising activities, such as mailing houses.

The Boys’ Brigade commits to:

  • Only collecting personal data about you that is absolutely necessary;
  • Do our best to keep any personal data collected about you up to date and accurate;
  • Not to keep any personal data longer than reasonably necessary;
  • Take all reasonable steps to keep your personal data safe and secure

The Boys’ Brigade is committed to ensuring that it fundraises in a transparent, ethical, responsible and honest way and is registered with the Fundraising Regulator and committed to the regulator’s Code of Fundraising Practice.


Updates and queries

We aim to keep your personal data as up-to-date as possible and will ask you to update it through various projects and communications. If you have any queries about the ways in which we use your personal data you should contact our Data Protection Representative at BB Headquarters.

You can withdraw your consent to any of the communications from The Boys’ Brigade at any point by contacting us, or by following opt-out links which can be found in our communications.
